Zone 3
Prune dead branches in spring and then prune branches after fruiting in summer. If left unpruned, this shrub produces six-foot-long canes that will grow upwards and then eventually sideways and down to the ground. Fruit production will begin in the second or third year of growth.
Note: Do not plant Red, Gold or Purple raspberries within 75-100 feet of Black raspberries. Black raspberries may be more susceptible to viral diseases carried by aphids to and from nearby raspberry plants.
